Bainbridge blotter | Teen involved in hit-and-run

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

SUNDAY, AUG. 11

4:05 p.m. A driver in a 2007 Lexus GX struck a 2012 Toyota Prius while reversing out of a parking spot in the Town & Country lot in downtown Winslow before driving off without leaving a note.

A witness noted the car’s license plate, however, and gave it to the driver of the Prius when she returned to the car.

Police contacted the owner of the Lexus and found his daughter, a 16-year-old, had been using the car that day. It was, he said, only her second day of driving solo.

The girl told police she’d been backing up and knew she’d hit something but wasn’t sure what. She did not get out to check.

Police “discussed driver responsibilities” with her and provided an exchange of insurance information to the Prius owner.
