Bainbridge blotter | Out-of-control bicyclist

MONDAY, APRIL 16

10:04 a.m. A woman arrived at the police station with a pile of mail she found near her own mailbox. It was addressed to at least eight different recipients, all in the vicinity of Rockaway Beach Road.

The mail was processed and returned to the intended recipients. The post office was notified of the possible theft.

THURSDAY, APRIL 19

2:14 p.m. A 46-year-old man visiting from Brooklyn, New York, suffered significant injuries while riding a bicycle on Winther Road.

He was traveling down the hill on Winther, from Kallgren Road, heading east in the direction of Sunrise Drive at about 30 mph, when he went over a bump in the road and flew forward over his handlebars, striking the pavement with hands, arms and face.

He suffered significant injures to his mouth, face, head and one arm.

Nearby witnesses told police the man seemed to lose consciousness momentarily, but awoke and was able to speak to emergency responders. He was treated and life flighted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for additional treatment.
