Bainbridge blotter | Just one beer and a shot of tequila

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

SUNDAY, MARCH 10

1:51 a.m. A 26-year-old Poulsbo woman was arrested for driving under the influence.

Police saw the woman driving excessively fast northbound on Highway 305. They followed, observing her speeding and swerving, crossing both the white and yellow lines, and tailgating a car in front of her. Also, she was seen throwing a burning cigarette out her window.

She was stopped near the Agate Pass Bridge.

The woman admitted to throwing out the cigarette but said she didn’t realize she’d been speeding or swerving. She said she was going home after finishing a shift at a downtown Winslow bar/eatery. Asked if she’d been drinking, the woman said no, though she did smell of alcoholic beverages.

The woman told police she could have someone come pick her up, slurring her words all the while. Her eyes were watery and bloodshot.

The woman agreed to perform a field sobriety test, and she performed poorly.

Asked again if she’d been drinking, the woman said she’d had one beer and a shot of tequila.

The woman was arrested.

Later, she admitted she also had taken “a hit” of marijuana while at work as well.

At the station she performed a breathalyzer test and blew a .173. Asked if she thought her ability to drive had been impaired, she admitted it was.

Bail was set at $5,000 as the woman had no prior offenses.
