Bainbridge blotter | It really was too good to be true

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

MONDAY, FEB. 19

2:52 p.m. A 71-year-old Bainbridge woman said she was taken in by a telephone scammer.

She told police she received a random call from someone who said she was eligible for a special deal on a two-week trip to Florida and it sounded too good to be true.

For $1,670, she was told she could get a vacation that included a rental car, food, hotel stays in multiple cities, and a three-day Bahama cruise.

When the woman asked for the details in writing, the scammer insisted on a down payment.

The woman then shared her bank card number, and she was charged $100.

When the woman researched the phone number she had been given through Google, she discovered the vacation promise was a scam.

The woman also recalled that during the call, she could hear little children in the background.

The woman was advised to keep checking her card account, and to call 911 if she discovered additional charges had been made.

Police have no suspects.
