Bainbridge blotter | Camper in the bathroom

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

SATURDAY, DEC. 15

8:12 a.m. A janitor reported finding a vagrant in the bathroom of a commercial building on Wyatt Way NE.

Police arrived and spoke with the property manager, who explained the bathrooms have a code lock and the trespassing man had somehow gotten inside the second floor bathroom. He knocked and tried to enter, but it was locked from the inside.

An officer knocked and identified himself. The man inside, 52, of Seattle, answered. He dutifully gathered his things and left without incident, saying he was homeless and had been camping in the restroom.

The manager asked the man be given a warning and refused to press charges at the time, but said he would do so if the man returned.

The homeless man said he understood and would not return. He would not say how he entered the building.

There was no damage done to the bathroom or door.
