Bainbridge Bakers closes

Bainbridge Bakers in the Winslow Green closed its doors last week.

Richard Stoulil and his company, which bought the business last November, elected to terminate their lease and cease operation.

Bainbridge Bakers started in 1986 and has seen six owners. It has served primarily espresso coffee and baked goods to thousands of islanders.

Landlords Nick and Peg Nickum expressed their sadness at the closing of the bakery, but said they are determined to find a new tenant to provide a similar experience for islanders.

“We have loved sharing this space with fellow islanders and visitors. The community has embraced it and we are anxious for that to continue,” the Nickums said.

The Nickums were also quick to point out that the next tenant will not be Starbucks.

The Seattle coffee giant, which is familiar with the Winslow Green space, has a store in the Island Village Shopping Center and has told the landlords that they do not want to open another store close by.
