A 47-year-old Bainbridge Island man was killed Friday when a tree he was cutting fell on him, according to police.

At approximately 7 p.m. Friday, police were called to the residence of Tad James Reid on Knight Road to investigate a missing person report, according to a police statement released Tuesday.

When police arrived at the home, they were told by Reid's two teenage children that he had been cutting trees on the property but they hadn't seen him for more than two hours. The children said they found Reid's tree-cutting equipment, but he was still missing.

Officers searched the property and found Reid pinned under a fallen maple tree, the report said.

Police freed Reid from the tree, but attempts to revive him failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
