A record 6,028 cyclists participated in the Chilly Hilly Bicycle Classic Sunday.

The previous record, 4,530, was set in 2005.

The 33-mile course – which began at the ferry terminal and wound counterclockwise around the island – included a total elevation gain of 2,857 feet.

One participant was transported from the course to receive medical attention, Cascade Bicycle Club Communications Manger M.J. Kelly said.

With the temperature in the low 50s and mostly cloudy skies, some cyclists completed the course twice, Kelly said.
