Man accused of threatening to burn Bainbridge mother and son arraigned
February 1, 2010 · Updated 2:27 PM
A California man accused of attempting to set on fire his ex-girlfriend and her 12-year-old son in December was arraigned Friday on counts of attempted murder, burglary and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Edward Mark Olsen, 49, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. He will be held at Kitsap County Jail on $2.5 million bail until his trial, which is scheduled to begin on March 22.
On the morning of Nov. 29, police said, Olsen broke into the home of the mother of two of his children. He stood over the woman's bed and poured gasoline on the victim and her son, who was in bed with the woman after being frightened by some previous activity outside the home. He threatened to light them on fire, but the woman and her son fought back, eventually escaping Olsen.
Olsen was apprehended in Chandler, Ariz., last month before being extradited to Washington last week. Olsen also faces charges in California in relation to parole violations.
