A hearing on the city’s proposed shoreline project at Strawberry Plant Park will continue July 10 at 9 a.m. in City Hall Council Chambers.

The proposed grant-funded project would remove a large portion of the existing shoreline at the Eagle Harbor property, with the aim of creating new nearshore habitat.

The citizen group “Friends of Cannery Cove Park” appealed the city’s mitigated determination of non-significance for the project. The group says the city’s plan would destroy historic elements on the property and limit active use of the waterfront.

Hearing Examiner Margaret Klockars began hearing testimony on the appeal June 12. The hearing was continued on June 25 and is expected to wrap up today with closing statements from the city and appellants.
