PAWS of Bainbridge and North Kitsap will hold three benefit events next week to help pet owners struggling to pay veterinary bills. The nonprofit group has seen demand for its veterinary assistance program jump by 61 percent this spring.

PAWS has teamed with a Poulsbo gold broker Russell Pickering, and will help residents sell their broken or unwanted gold jewelry. Pickering will be donating his commission to PAWS and residents are invited to donate a portion of their proceeds. Bainbridge events are scheduled for May 3 and 9. See www.pawsbainbridge.org for details.
