Three people were hospitalized following a collision that closed southbound State Route 305 at Day Road Friday afternoon.

All three people have since been released, according to Bainbridge Police Lt. Sue Shultz.

The collision occurred at 3:25 p.m. Friday.

According to Shultz, witnesses said a red Toyota Highlander traveling westbound on Day Road drove through a red traffic signal at State Route 305 and collided with a second sport utility vehicle on the highway.

The Toyota came to rest on an embankment off the southwest corner of the intersection. Shultz said the driver of the Toyota was not wearing a seat belt. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

A driver and passenger from the second SUV were transported to Harrison Hospital.

Southbound SR-305 was closed following the accident and traffic was diverted onto Miller Road. Northbound SR-305 remained open.

Shultz said the driver of the Toyota will be cited for failing to obey a traffic signal and inattention to driving.
