The Bainbridge Metropolitan Park and Recreation District's levy lid-lift proposal was passing in early results Tuesday evening. With 9,590 Bainbridge votes counted, 54 percent were supporting the measure, which needed a simple majority to pass.

The lid-lift would raise the district's property tax levy to $0.75 per $1,000 of assessed value. At least 75 percent of the estimated $1.1 million of extra revenue generated by the lid-lift will be used for open space acquisition and development.

Park district Board Chair Ken DeWitt said that given the financial climate, he was giving the lift a 50 percent chance of passing.

"This is a weight off my shoulders," DeWitt said Tuesday evening. "I think this result shows that people trust in the park district to do the right thing with their money."

A full story on the park district lid-lift will appear in the Review's Saturday edition.
