Bike for Pie set for Sunday

For those who think pedaling and pie-eating don’t mix, think again.

Sponsored by island bicycle advocacy group Squeaky Wheels, the sixth annual “Bike for Pie” ride begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Marge Willams Center on Winslow Way.

The event is exactly what it sounds like – participants ride bikes, eat pies and raise money to support Squeaky Wheels’ various programs and activities.

From the Marge Williams Center, cyclists will be led by Squeaky Wheels President Dana Berg on a six-mile ride to Fort Ward State Park.

Riders who don’t make it to the start can join the group anywhere on the route.

T-shirts will be for sale at the event, and volunteers from the organization will be on hand to collect donations.

It’s not too late to volunteer.

Help is needed for setup in the park at 9 a.m., and the transport of  pies from the Marge Williams Center at 9:30 a.m.

Pie bakers (either berry or savory), pie servers and T-shirt sellers also are in demand.

For more information or to volunteer, email Linda Meier at lindameier2000@yahoo.com or call Chuck Beek at 780-7869.
