The Bainbridge Island City Council elected Councilman Wayne Roth Monday to serve as the new deputy mayor through December 2014.

As deputy mayor, Roth will fill in for Mayor Anne Blair when she cannot fulfill her duties or is absent.

Under Bainbridge’s council-city manager form of government, the mayor has no more authority than the rest of the council, but acts as the signing party for official paperwork and ordinances. The mayor also leads meetings.

Tollefson was elected in January as deputy mayor and will now pass the torch onto Roth.
