Island Children’s Montessori School moves from Coppertop to Rolling Bay

Island Children’s Montessori School will relocate to the campus of the Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church at Sunrise & Valley Roads.

The move will allow the school to better serve the needs of island families looking for high-quality early childhood education, school officials said Tuesday.

“We are thrilled to be back at the north end. The church has a wonderful classroom space and beautiful grounds. We think our families will love it,” said Joan Gillanders, director of the school.

Island Children’s Montessori School has been open for more than 35 years, first housed in the Port Madison Lutheran Church at Madison and Torvanger. For the last six years, the school occupied space in the Coppertop Loop Park.

An open house and social, open to the public, is planned for late August. The time and date have yet to be set.

“We hope some of our alumni families will join us and celebrate this new chapter for ICMS,” Gillanders said.

Island Children’s Montessori School is a nonprofit preschool and kindergarten open to children 2½ to 6 years of age. The Montessori-based curriculum focuses on the needs of the individual child and classes are offered on three-, four- and five-day schedules. Class sizes are small, and led by a staff that is well-trained and experienced.

Applications for the 2014-2015 school year are still being accepted.
