Primary results show Townsend in the lead for Bainbridge South Ward council seat

Tuesday's primary for Kitsap County shows Roger Townsend outpacing his opponent in the race for Bainbridge Island's South Ward city council seat.

With 1,169 votes counted for the Bainbridge Island Council District 3 South Ward, Townsend has received 58 percent of the vote, while Dee McComb garnered roughly 31 percent.

Townsend had picked up 683 votes in the first tally for the Primary Election, while McComb had 359.

Bob Bosserman received 10 percent of the vote, despite bowing out of the race in May and lending his support to Townsend. He had 116 votes in the first tally.

The South Ward seat is currently held by Councilwoman Kirsten Hytopoulos, who decided not to run for re-election.
