Green jumps into Bainbridge council race

Two council seats on Bainbridge Island now have candidates looking to join the city's deliberative body.

John Green filed as a candidate for the Central Ward, District 5 position on the council on Monday afternoon.

Candidate Filing Week started May 13.

Green, who announced his candidacy earlier this year, is seeking the council seat now held by Councilwoman Debbi Lester. Lester said earlier she would not seek re-election.

Three seats on the seven-member council will be on the November ballot.

The terms for Councilwoman Kirsten Hytopoulos (South Ward, District 3) and Councilman Bob Scales (North Ward, District 7) conclude at the end of December.

Hytopoulos and Scales have both said they won't run again for the city council in this year's General Election.

Val Tollefson filed as a candidate for the District 7 seat earlier Monday.

All three council seats carry four-year terms.

Candidate Filing Week runs through Friday, May 17.

May 20 is the last day for candidates to withdraw.
