Five finalists announced for police chief

Bainbridge Island's next police chief will be chosen from five applicants: Richard Daniels, Harry Glidden, Richard Goerling, Matthew Hamner and Bryce Johnson.

The city named the five finalists March 29.

City Manager Doug Schulze announced the candidates in his online newsletter Friday afternoon.

The group will be presented to the Bainbridge community at a special city council meeting and public reception next week at city hall. The reception is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in council chambers.

Schulze said earlier that he hopes to bring the new chief aboard in May.

A total of 57 people from across the country applied for the position.

Bainbridge Island has been without a police chief since September.

Larry Dickerson, a former police chief from Lacey, has been serving as the city's interim director of public safety since July.
