Johnson leaving the Team

"As downtown roadwork wraps up, so will the tenure of Winslow merchants’ leading advocate.Citing the need to spend more time with her family, Team Winslow Director Wendy Johnson will bid the organization farewell Nov. 12.“This is such a great job, it’s hard to leave,” said Johnson, who has served as Team Winslow director since 1996.Her announcement came as city officials and downtown merchants celebrated the end of the Lower Madison/Brien/Bjune road project Friday. The noontime soiree included a ribbon-cutting at the Winslow Way/Madison Avenue intersection, followed by an award presentation and hot-dog feed in the Eagle Harbor Congregational Church fellowship hall.Johnson said the Team Winslow board will initiate a candidate search immediately, focusing on local applicants. But with the Winslow downtown becoming something of a nationwide model for Main Street organizations, she has already had inquiries from the director of a similar merchants’ group in Illinois.Johnson said she was saddened by her decision to resign, but said the demands of the job were preventing her from spending sufficient time with her children.“I’ll have to watch (Team Winslow) from a distance now,” she said. “But I’ll still be applauding.”"
