Ball doesn't bounce kickers' way versus Capitol

Spartans can't get going offensively; eliminated from state tourney.

OLYMPIA - Two deflections off Bainbridge players was all the Capitol Cougars needed, as they defeated the Spartans 2-0 in a 3A state tournament game Tuesday at Ingersoll Stadium at Olympia High School.

Capitol scored in the 21st minute when a Cougar player took a shot from seven yards out that bounced off a Spartan defender and got past goalkeeper Alex Oeschli for the score.

In the 57th minute, Capitol scored again as Oeschli was going for the ball but collided with one of his defenders. Bainbridge tried to clear the ball but it bounced off a player and the Cougars took advatage.

The Spartans were without Johnny Baggett, who was out with an injury.

Bainbridge finishes at 11-3-5.
