Bainbridge police collect unwanted guns

March 8, 2013 · Updated 11:59 AM

The Bainbridge Island Police Department will host an event to collect unwanted firearms and ammunition from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, March 11 and from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.

The department will also be handing out free gun locks.

“This event gives citizens with unwanted firearms an option to ensure the weapons don’t find their way onto the street,” said Interim Public Safety Director Larry Dickerson. “In 2012, approximately 70 firearms were stolen in Kitsap County, and are now unaccounted for.”

Guns can be brought into the police station at 625 Winslow Way on March 11 and March 12.
