Downtown Winslow’s Columbia Bank learned that good deeds can sometimes bear sweet rewards.

Bank employees were treated with rose petal ice cream from MORA Iced Creamery on Feb. 14.

The bank, along with other Winslow businesses were challenged by the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association to send in pictures of red paper hearts that were sold benefiting the American Heart Association during National Heart Health Month.

The ice cream treat was a little incentive for businesses to go the extra mile during the last days of a local fundraising event “For the Love of Bainbridge.”

The charity drive at the beginning of February aimed to raise money for the American Heart Association. More than 20 downtown merchants joined in the effort selling paper hearts for $1 to $10.

Island Fitness put the fundraising endeavor on the fast track by not only selling the hearts, but also offered a couples rowing challenge.
