Bainbridge School District plans surplus sale for unneeded equipment, furniture and odds-and-ends

Looking to buy a used weed-eater?

How about a table saw, or a floor buffer?

In the market for a gently-used kinder cubbie or two?

Need a folding chair? How about 400?

The Bainbridge Island School District may have just what you are looking for, from lounge chairs to lacrosse sticks and more. The district is gearing up for a surplus sale, and hundreds of no-longer-needed items will be offered for public purchase early next month.

Bainbridge schools will hold a public surplus sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Commodore Options School.

Items offered for sale will include more than 500 chairs of different types (small, medium, large, folding), dozens of tables, plus cabinets, couches and desks. There are plenty of tools and landscaping equipment, and the list includes edgers, an air compressor, sewer snake, field painters, weedeaters, blowers and a fertilizer spreader.

There are also books. Many, many books, from "Discovery Geometry" to "Investigations Math" to "Elementary Spanish." The books alone fill 698 boxes.

There are also several unique items noted on the list for the spring surplus sale; a gurney, stage spotlights, an Amray Model 1600 electron-scanning microscope, a video editing machine.

The equipment, furniture and other items are being offered for sale because the items are no longer needed — take the 45 VCRs, for example — or have outlived their useful life.

Bainbridge students will get first crack at buying any books set to be surplused, from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11.

Public and private schools will get a chance to buy surplus items by appointment on Feb. 27-28, before the public sale comes two days later.

District officials note that the surplus items will be sold “as is,” and purchases must be made by cash or check.
