Incoming 6th District Congressman Derek Kilmer is in line for an appointment to the House Armed Services Committee.
U.S. Representative-elect Kilmer, a former state senator from Gig Harbor, will be sworn into office Jan. 3.
The House Democratic Steering & Policy Committee formally recommended Kilmer for the House Armed Services Committee Thursday.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the Armed Services Committee," Kilmer said.
"Not only does the military play a vital role in keeping our entire nation safe and secure, it also has an enormous impact on the lives of many residents in our region," he added. "I look forward to the opportunity to play a meaningful role in helping to strengthen our military and support our servicemen and women and their families."
