SWAT training at ferry yard Tuesday

The Washington State Patrol’s SWAT team will conduct a training exercise at Washington State Ferries’ Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility on Bainbridge Island on Tuesday.

"'Simunition' ammo will be used, and muffled "pop" sounds may be heard by nearby residences.

The training will 8 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. May 15.

The SWAT team will work with members of the Kitsap County Sheriffs Office in vessel familiarization and tactical maneuvers, the Washington State Patrol said. Troopers assigned to the SWAT team often conduct joint training exercises with other special response teams.

In a real-life response or callout, law enforcement agencies frequently respond together to bring a peaceful resolution to a crisis, authorities said. The training exercise will allow separate teams "to respond in unison to proficiently handle a maritime threat."

All training will be contained inside the maintenance facility.
