VillageSpeak will host a community-wide potluck for islanders to meet Doug Schulze, Bainbridge Island's new city manager.

The informal gathering and discussion is planned for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26 at OfficeXpats in the Bainbridge Pavilion.

Organizers of the event said Schulze will talk about his management philosophies, life lessons and communication preferences.

VillageSpeak, a nonpartisan group that seeks to inspire community leadership, informed decision-making and civic participation, hosts monthly gatherings on Bainbridge Island with community leaders and residents.

“Effective decision-making is something we learn to do in every walk of life whether we are parents or corporate executives,” said Ann Warman, a founding member of VillageSpeak's board of directors.

"By listening and talking with our local leaders, learning how they approach decision-making, we discover new and better ways to resolve conflict and build consensus," she said.

Following Schulze' talk, there will be a question-and-answer session and an open mic. Participants will be invited to share their ideas and issues with Schulze and the audience.

At 8:30 p.m., the meeting will convene in a standing reception. Bring a dish to share, no RSVP is required. Plates and utensils will be supplied; the suggested donation for beverages is $5.
