Bainbridge uses big first half to earn first trip since 2004.
BELLEVUE - At last, the Bainbridge girls basketball team have seen their dream come along.
The Spartans put together a near picture perfect first half, then withstood a furious rally to defeat Nathan Hale 60-42 in a 3A Sea-King District 2 loser-out game to earn a spot in the 3A state tournament next week.
It's their first trip since 2004.
Bainbridge started out hot as Anna Wood and Brittany Gray combined to score 23 points in the first half en route to a 34-11 lead.
Nathan Hale shot just 20.8 percent.
The Raiders came out and used the full-court trap to pressure the Spartans into numerous turnovers, but struggled at the free throw line.
Bainbridge plays Lakeside Saturday at 4:45 p.m. to determine the third and fourth seeds to state.
The 3A state tournament is March 5-8 at the Bank of America Arena on the University of Washington campus.
