Washington State Democrats endorse referendum on same sex marriage, oppose initiative on charter schools

Washington State Democrats announced their support for Referendum 74, the same-sex marriage referendum, after the close of their state central committee meeting Saturday in Yakima.

Washington State Democrats have endorsed a "yes" vote on the ballot proposal, which would affirm the state law on same-sex marriages.

Gov. Chris Gregoire signed a bill into law in February that allowed so-called "gay marriage." The move made Washington the seventh state in the country to legalize same-sex marriages.

Washington State Democrats also approved a "vote no" endorsement on Initiative 1240, a proposal that would allow up to 40 public charter schools in Washington over a five-year period.
