Make-up days for late start at Wilkes Elementary announced

The make-up days for the late start to the school year at Captain Charles Wilkes Elementary School have been announced.

The first day of school at Wilkes Elementary was pushed from Aug. 29 to Sept. 4 due to ongoing construction at the new school.

To make up for the days missed at the beginning of the year, Wilkes students will attend school for half-day sessions on three of the four full-day conference days this school year.

School officials said conferences will be scheduled after school is dismissed for the day, and October conferences with teachers will be scheduled soon.

The revised schedule for fall and spring conference days is:

10:50 a.m. dismissal on Wednesday, Oct. 3 (the same as all elementary schools in the Bainbridge Island School District);

10:50 a.m. dismissal on Thursday, Oct. 4 and Friday, Oct. 5 (there will be no school for other elementary schools in the district);

and 10:50 a.m. dismissal on Thursday, March 21 (no school for other elementary schools).

There will be no school for students on Friday, March 22 in any of the district's elementary schools.
