Bainbridge blotter | Hit-and-run driver caught on camera

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

6:01 p.m. After a BMW rear-ended a Ford Econovan on Hidden Cove Road, the at-fault driver drove off.

According to the driver of the van, the BMW driver initially made contact with him, but once police were being called to the scene, he said he wanted to make sure his car would still run. The BMW driver then drove away from the scene.

The driver of the van, however, had taken pictures of the damage with a disposable camera. Police got the film developed and were able to identify the license plate of the BMW.

After the photos were developed, the BMW driver called police and said he thought he could drive away after the photos were taken. The driver was advised that he would be receiving tickets in the mail.
