Police plan outreach efforts

August 31, 2012 · 12:24 PM

Coming off the heals of the National Night Out event which drew island crowds out for free hot dogs and mingling with Bainbridge police, the department has begun planning further opportunities to engage the community.

Two town hall meetings have been scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, and at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.

No location has been determined. Citizens will be encouraged to attend and ask questions and comment on policing issues.

An ongoing effort will also be launched to improved police operations. Police will issue a survey each month to 20 randomly selected islanders. The survey will gather feedback on police interaction and assist the department in improving operations.

Public Safety Director Larry Dickerson is also forming a citizens round table.

The round table will bring together a select group of islanders to meet with the police department’s leadership. People interested in taking part can complete a feedback form on the city’s website or call 842-5211.
