Blair voted mayor pro tem

August 23, 2012 · 3:55 PM

Bainbridge Island Councilwoman Anne Blair was unanimously approved as the city council’s mayor pro tem on Wednesday.

Nominated by Councilman Steve Bonkowski, Blair was voted in with little discussion and much confidence.

The mayor pro tem is a deputy mayor position, and Blair will fill in for the council’s mayor, Debbi Lester, when she cannot fulfill her duties or is absent.

The council’s mayor has no more authority than any other council member, but acts as the signing party for official paper work such as ordinances, and leads council meetings.
