Kitsap County receives more than 21,000 ballots Wednesday

Turnout in the 2012 Primary Election in Kitsap County has passed the 40-percent mark.

According to Kitsap County Elections, the largest bulk of ballots to be returned for counting came in Wednesday, Aug. 8.

A total of 21,867 ballots were received. All told, 59,824 ballots have been mailed, dropped off at ballot deposit boxes or cast at accessible voting units in Kitsap County for the primary.

So far, 42,768 votes have been counted, with approximately 16,800 left to tally.

Turnout is now pegged at 40.8 percent.

The next update in the vote count is expected by 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9.
