Belfair explosion destroyed Bainbridge Island fireworks

The shipping container that exploded Sunday evening in Belfair contained fireworks intended for Bainbridge Island's Fourth of July show.

Despite the loss, the show will go on, said Scott Isenman of Bainbridge Fireworks.

Employees of Belfair Auto Wrecking were shooting at targets around, or posted on, the shipping container that was stored at their facility.

One round ignited the fireworks within the container, causing an extremely large explosion that started various fires in the area. Firefighting crews were still putting out hotspots on Monday.
