The Bainbridge Island City Council appointed Deputy City Manager Morgan Smith as acting city manager at its meeting Wednesday.

Smith was appointed to the post on 7-0 vote, which came immediately after the city council decided 4-3 to immediately remove City Manager Brenda Bauer from her job.

Bauer's last day is Thursday, March 15. Smith's first day as city manager will be Friday, March 16.

Councilman David Ward said Smith had been asked if she would accept the job, and Smith said yes, Ward recounted.
