Three-day filing period set for BI Port District candidates
July 31, 2011 · 3:18 PM
Along with deciding whether or not to establish a proposed Bainbridge Island Port District, voters in the Nov. 8 general election also will cast ballots on a five-member port commission.
The brief filing period for the five at-large positions begins this Tuesday and concludes at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. Filings will be accepted in the auditor's Elections Division office at 619 Division St., Port Orchard, WA 98366.
Late last week, the Kitsap County's Auditor's Office followed the Board of Commissioners' approval of a ballot resolution with the announcement of a special three-day filing period for candidates for the five-member commission that would serve the port district, if formed.
Any registered voter residing within the proposed district (inside the City of Bainbridge Island) is eligible to file for one of these nonpartisan positions. Candidates will appear on the Nov. 8 general election ballot; no filing fees are required.
Filings will be posted on the auditor's website at: www.kitsapgov.com/aud/elections/elections.
