Resistance and Resilience: Coming Together in Hard Times

A presentation by Chuck Collins

co-founder of Common Security Clubs, Wealth for the Common Good; Director of the Program on Inequality and the Common Good for the DC-based Institute for Policy Studies and David Korten, author of Agenda for a New Economy is from 7-9 p.m. May 3 at The Island School's Webster Hall.

'"Coming together in hard times" is exactly what people around the country are doing,' wrote Kat Gjovak in a press release.  "In Common Security Clubs (the name's not important, the substance and the process are), neighbors share experiences, build relationships, learn how the economy works (and doesn't), and help each other.

Topics that will be presented:

  • Facing economic and ecological challenges, learning together about root causes.
  • Building relationships that strengthen security and undertaking concrete steps for mutual aid and shared action.
  • Rediscovering the abundance of what a community has and recognizing the possibility of a better future.
  • Seeing local connections as part of a larger effort to create a fair and healthy economy that works for everyone.

In the process, a common security club allows neighbors (co-workers, etc.) to get to know one another, find inspiration, have fun and strengthen community.
