Voter turnout high in Kitsap county and Bainbridge

The voter turnout rates for the Nov. 2 election are coming in higher than the Kitsap County Auditor's Office anticipated with Kitsap County returning 73.3 percent of the ballots and Bainbridge Island bringing in 81.8 percent.

Before the election, the auditor's office estimated county residents would return between 65 to 70 percent of the ballots, with Bainbridge residents at about 70 percent.

As of Monday at 6:30 p.m. 11,700 county ballots had yet to be processed.

Voter turnout statewide is at 64.1 percent of the 3,601,152 registered voters. As of noon Tuesday, the state still had 237,163 ballots remaining to be processed.

Election results will be certified and made official on Nov. 23. Up until 5 p.m. on Nov. 22, voters can return ballots that were rejected for a mismatched signature or other problems.

As of 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 65.1 percent of the ballots cast (93,606) by Kitsap County's 143,796 registered voters had been counted.
