SEATTLE – As the voices of the victorious Spartans echoed across the locker room, the vanquished Spartans were left to quietly share words of encouragement and wonder what might have been. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the Spartans of Bainbridge that were victorious. The hometown five never found their rhythm nor could they survive a cold shooting spell, losing 69-50 to Skyline in a 3A Sea-King District 2 loser out game Tuesday at Ingraham High School.

Gray scores 34 for girls; boys get past West Seattle in a thriller. As long as Brittany Gray keeps playing at this high a level, the Bainbridge girls’ basketball team will gladly reap the benefits. The 5-11 junior wing scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed 19 rebounds – 11 on the offensive side – as the Spartans took out Bishop Blanchet 72-53 in a Metro League playoff game to advance to the district tournament.

Bainbridge head coach Cindy Guy has had a lot to worry about this season, but like H&R Block, she can relax a bit when it comes to competition time – she’s got people. “It’s that tremendous amount of depth that we have” that allows them to do well, she said.

Too many close losses, forfeits seal Sparts’ fate against Wildcats. During a wrestling match, it’s that one move that is – or isn’t made – that can cost a wrestler points, or worse, a loss. Head coach Dan Pippinger was frustrated with how the Bainbridge wrestling team did in a 54-21 loss against a tough West Seattle team Thursday night in the last home match of the season.
