Spartans want to make their case as a title contender. Mention the word “Sammamish” to anyone and they may think you’re talking about the town, the lake or the tribe itself. Mention the word “Sammamish” to the Bainbridge fastpitch team and you’ll get an entirely different reaction. “We talk about it all the time,” said Brittany Wisner of their near upset of the Totems last May, only to have it taken away on a bad call. “But we’ve learned from it and we’re just going to take it and hopefully learn from it this year and do better this year.”

SEATTLE – As the voices of the victorious Spartans echoed across the locker room, the vanquished Spartans were left to quietly share words of encouragement and wonder what might have been. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the Spartans of Bainbridge that were victorious. The hometown five never found their rhythm nor could they survive a cold shooting spell, losing 69-50 to Skyline in a 3A Sea-King District 2 loser out game Tuesday at Ingraham High School.

Gray scores 34 for girls; boys get past West Seattle in a thriller. As long as Brittany Gray keeps playing at this high a level, the Bainbridge girls’ basketball team will gladly reap the benefits. The 5-11 junior wing scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed 19 rebounds – 11 on the offensive side – as the Spartans took out Bishop Blanchet 72-53 in a Metro League playoff game to advance to the district tournament.
