The Bainbridge Sportsmen's Club will welcome the start of another spring fishing season Saturday, with its annual Youth Fishing Derby on Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher Day.

The free derby is open to children ages 14 and under and runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the Irving S. Miller Memorial Pond, on Sportsman Club Road.

Only rods and line can be used in the derby - no reels allowed. Some bamboo rods available on a first-come basis. The club encourages anglers to bring their own bait, sturdy shoes and clothing, chairs and snacks, and a container to carry home their catch in.

Prizes will be awarded at the close of the derby.

The Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher Day derby has been a Sportsmen's Club tradition for decades and takes place on the last Saturday of April each year.
