Winslow book shop hosts league of ‘Nasty Women’

In celebration of Independent Book Store Day, contributors of the “Nasty Women Project” will be at Eagle Harbor Book Company from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 29 to sign copies of the book and meet supporters.

“The Nasty Women Project: Voices from the Resistance” is an anthology from Gatekeeper Press, made up of writings by female authors in response to a perceived erosion of civil liberties, as well as norms of basic civility.

From the book: “The government is waging war on low income women, among others, through regressive policy decisions including the federal defunding of Planned Parenthood. Nasty Women around the country felt collectively that this was the time to tell our personal stories and find the common humanity that connects us all.

Each Nasty Woman featured in Volume One of the “Nasty Women Project” answered the call to tell the story of her participation in the Resistance. We supported, encouraged, and inspired one another, especially when the story was emotionally difficult for the author. We gave each other strength, stoked each other’s fires, and listened with true passion and compassion to each other’s tales of survival in the face of overwhelming odds. In less than three months, the first volume of this phenomenal project came together.”

The project is donating 100 percent of the proceeds from book sales to Planned Parenthood, an organization currently at risk for defunding by Congress.

Politico reported in November last year that eliminating Planned Parenthood’s federal funding would mean low income women on Medicaid wouldn’t be able to access cancer screenings, contraceptive information or reproductive health care services.
