Tom Waits tribute takes Lynwood stage

The Bleeding Romeos, a Tom Waits tribute band fronted by John Wies, will perform at the biggest stage in Lynwood, the Treehouse Café, at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 17.

Admission is free, with donations accepted. The show is for those 21-and-older only.

St. Patty’s Day is as good as any for a tribute to Irish descendant and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tom Waits. But when you cover Waits, you’d better bring everything but the kitchen sink.

Check that: bring the sink too.

And a plunger.

The Bleeding Romeos bring the whole kitchen.

Wies’ percussive guitar playing style and guttural vocals establish the foundation. Performing locally as a soloist and in various bands, including his own Weiswald, he brings a serious yet playful Waits persona that works perfectly to set this apart from just another tribute project. He has also taken the stage in far flung places such as Japan and Korea, had his work showcased in Alaskan theatrical performances, and gotten air time on Mongolian radio.

Rounding out the ensemble for the Treehouse show are Jerry Anderson, Steve Smith, Lynn Cook and Jon Lanthier.
