Bainbridge Arts and Craft presents “Streaming: Textile Artists Think About Water” at the gallery Aug. 3 through Sept. 2.

For this exhibition, while they stitched, wove, dyed or quilted, fiber artists thought about water.

Artists include Deborah Babin, Linda McFarland, Kimberly Morris, Pamela Mostek, Carol Roi Olsen, Lynnette Sandbloom and Dana Ziesemer.

Ziesemer said that when she imagined water, she saw movement. She looked for ways to create that movement, and found them in a cut piece of fabric, a seam line, or in the quilting.

McFarland stitches on cloth and paper to create images of measuring, exploring, and navigating the ocean.

“Water is a natural subject for a Bainbridge Island artist – it surrounds us,” added Sandbloom. “We view water from the car, a building, a boat, a bridge or a ferry.”

“Every time I look I see something different, it’s always new and it’s always beautiful,” she explained. “I love moving my vision into the medium of cloth.”

Also at BAC, the gallery features the work of Seth Rolland, a furniture maker for more than 20 years. His inventive design and superb craftsmanship produces animated and elegant furniture.

Rolland begins by thinking about his materials, then finds unexpected ways to use them. He shapes, laminates, steams and bends wood to reflect both the subtle and dramatic curves found in nature. He uses stone to balance cantilevers and anchor structures. His inventive design and superb craftsmanship produces animated and elegant furniture.

Deborah Babin will give a free artist demo on textile art at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. Come by the gallery to meet the  artist and watch her turn fabric into collage.

Bainbridge Arts and Crafts is located at 151 Winslow Way E. The BAC Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
