Like mushrooms, but don’t know where to start? IslandWood presents Mushroom Mania, the perfect place to start a lifelong learning journey with fungi. Learn about the lives of mushrooms in your backyard and be prepared to get your geek on with other mycology enthusiasts.

Mushroom Mania is two separate events.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, IslandWood presents a lecture that will explore the natural history of the fungus among us in an entertaining and informative presentation.

On Nov. 12, come hike the trails at IslandWood with the expert foragers from the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society as guides. You’ll learn where to look for different species and identification tricks of the trade from those who know it best. The hikes have been designed to be age-appropriate; sign up for the early session if you are a family with younger children (10 a.m. to noon) or the afternoon session (1 to 3:30 p.m.) if your party is adults-only.
