Mora named ‘best ice cream shop’ in Washington by Thrillist

Thrillist recently crowned Bainbridge Island’s own Mora Iced Creamery as the best ice cream shop in the state.

“Oh, sure, you can get some pretty next-level ice cream in Seattle,” according to the just-out online article, “but there’s nothing quite like getting scoops at Mora’s while gazing out into the Puget Sound from one of its many islands. Berries are the move in this island oasis for hand-made greatness, with the signature blackberry being a standout (though raspberry’s a strong contender, too), while a scoop of banana split is like taking the perfect bite of that gigantic dessert with every lick. This is your first stop when you get off the ferry: Walk, don’t run. Sea legs are a beast.”

The island-based desert mecca beat out many strong contenders across the Sound, the authors said, by focusing on simple, delicious concoctions made from great ingredients.

There were no definitive criteria used in compiling the national list, according to the authors.

“We took into account creativity, but not at the expense of taste. We accounted for the (often strident) opinions of friends, colleagues, and ice cream fans spread all over the country. And size did matter — while small regional chains weren’t expressly verboten, we tended to favor the little guy.”

Never heard of Thrillist? It is, it says, “a leading men’s digital lifestyle brand, providing all that’s new, unknown or under-appreciated in food, drink, entertainment, nightlife, gadgets, and gear.”
