Magic carpet handbook author visits Winslow

Ilona Bray will visit Eagle Harbor Book Company at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 to discuss her new children’s’ book “Mossby’s Magic Carpet Handbook: A Flyer’s Guide to Mossby’s Model D3 Extra Small Magic Carpet (Especially for Young or Vertically Challenged People).”

The illustrated tome is aimed at readers 8 to 12-years old.

What if one day you received a magic carpet — perhaps from a mysterious great aunt who’s done with her own high-flying adventures? Will you be ready to find your way to fabulous locations (and home again) and bravely handle altitude, storms, G-forces and more?

Fortunately, “Mossby’s Magic Carpet Handbook” has all the instructions you’ll need, plus your great aunt’s handwritten notes to guide you.

Having grown up in rainy Seattle, Bray said she knows the importance of entering a world of imagination through books. Her real-world adventures have taken her around the globe: studying philosophy at a small women’s college in Pennsylvania, canning salmon in Alaska, representing immigrants and refugees in San Francisco (she’s a lawyer, too), and traveling to far-flung destinations such as Turkey, Guatemala, China and Lithuania.

She now focuses on writing books for both adults and children.
