Geological history of Bainbridge on screen

Bainbridge Cinemas will host two free screenings, at 6 and 7 p.m., of Island Treasure Awardee Cameron Snow’s documentary “The Geological Formation of Bainbridge Island” on Wednesday, Sept. 26 as part of the fourth annual disaster readiness event Three Days of Preparedness.

In the film, Geologist Gregory Geehan takes viewers deep into the past where rocks bend and tilt under compression, a shoreline lifts 20 feet and the sea floor becomes a mountain.

The story begins on Bainbridge Island, then rapidly expands to the surrounding region in three parts: “Part One, The Blakeley Formation and The Blakely Harbor Formation” (30 minutes), “Part Two, Faults and Earthquakes” (45 minutes), and “Part Three, The Glacial Age” (40 minutes).
