Farm-fresh author to visit

Kurt Timmermeister, a Vashon Island farm-to-table chef and pioneer, will make a visit to Bainbridge Island to talk about his newest book, “Farm Food, Volume 1: Fall and Winter.”

The author will visit Eagle Harbor Book Company at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30.

Timmermeister, a Seattle native, began his life in food service in Paris while studying for a career in foreign service. He returned to Seattle to run the legendary Café Septiemes before turning to small-scale farming with his move to Vashon in 1991.

There, his subscription-only, multi-course Sunday dinners on his farm became, for many years, the area’s hottest and hardest-to-get meal ticket.

His book “Farm Food” is the beginning of a series and contains photographs, recipes and essays on life at Kurtwood Farms, Timmermeister’s base of operation on Vashon. Filled with sumptuous pictures and thoughtful musings, it makes a tasty following for readers and fans of Timmermeister’s popular earlier books, “Growing A Farmer: How I Learned To Live Off The Land” and “Growing A Feast: The Chronicle Of A Farm-To-Table Meal.”

Eagle Harbor Book Company is at 157 Winslow Way East.
