Exhibit at Bainbridge Public Library presents stunning owl images

Paul Bannick, an award-winning photographer and author, will unveil an exhibit of North American owls never before shown in the U.S. in a November show at the Bainbridge Public Library.

“Owls in North America: Spirits of the Land” opens at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 at the First Friday Art Walk with a reception co-sponsored by Conservation Northwest. Bannick will conduct an interactive tour at 6 p.m. featuring selected photographs.

Bannick is both the author and photographer of two best-selling bird books, “Owl: A Year in the Lives of North American Owls” (Braided River 2016) and “The Owl and The Woodpecker, Encounters with North America’s Most Iconic Birds” (Mountaineers 2008). Both of Paul’s books were well received. Washington’s State Museum, The Burke, created two traveling exhibits based on his first book, “The Owl and the Woodpecker.”

His second book, “Owl: A Year in the Lives of North American Owls,” received Gold Medal in the 2017 Independent Publisher Book Awards “Animals/Pets” category. Bannick’s work can be found prominently in many books from Audubon, Peterson, and The Smithsonian and has been featured in a variety of publications including The New York Times, Audubon, Sunset, and Nature’s Best Photography Magazine.

His many TV and radio appearances include pieces on NBC Nightly News, PBS and NPR. He also serves as director of development for Conservation Northwest, an organization dedicated to protecting, connecting and restoring wildlands and wildlife in the Pacific Northwest.

Photographs will be on view all of November but several will be displayed on opening night only. The photos from the exhibit can be also viewed on the library website at www.bainbridgepubliclibrary.org.

Photos, books and calendars will be available for purchase at the opening reception. Refreshments will be provided by Conservation Northwest.
